The ad-hoc feel is on purpose. An underlying philosophy that we have at MindGardens is that we want a child to come away both learning something from the activity and building a mental database that would one day result in a thought like this, “ I can build that.”
When we choose to use readily available raw materials at our stations, we are showing our children that the world that is accessible to them is their workshop. They are invited to learn and participate at the stations and also see the inner workings and construction techniques.
